about

The Boy Who Melts the Sun borrows ideas from the myth of Icarus but turns the moral of the story a bit on it’s side. The song detaches from the self doubting anxiety of the rest of the album and urges Icarus to fly as high as he can; even if that leads him into the flames of the sun. The song is about fearlessness in the face of failure.

The song was initially conceived while Emmanuel Ventura-Cruess was traveling in Paris; during a jam in a hotel stairwell at 4am with his violinist friend Dei Urresti the seedlings of the song were born. When Emmanuel returned home to his studio in SoCal he fleshed out and re-recorded the song. The song explores using a visceral tribal sound that somehow still feels futuristic.

lyrics

I’ve peeled off all of my skin now
Leafless my hide spirals down

Plagued by the lack of engines
Incessant pressure from
Leprechauns in my head like ‘La La La La La’
Lost in the labyrinth of my own mind
Pining in the dark
Liberate my
Liberate my
Liberate my
Liberate my
Liberate my
Liberate my
Liberate my mind

Fly away my Icarus
Fly into the sun
Melt the sun

Soaring high I see all the boxes filled with ants
My only companions are clouds
Forming anyone I could want
Yet still I am
